Homeopathy combats Covid-19 by boosting immunity

Dr. VIDHI SINGH TAK

Covid-19 pandemic is causing great panic in the world as human beings have no natural immunity to viruses. While the frontline medical community actually facing the pandemic is doing a very good job despite limited resources available to them, the research community is perplexed because any useful and viable vaccine/virus-targeted treatment will take at least one and half a year. Historically, every Epidemic/Pandemic faced by mankind has brought us down to our knees.

This is where homeopathy has its advantages. Homeopathy is an accredited and recognized system of medicine in India and for this reason alone, there should be no bar to its use in any disease, let alone Covid-19. This system of medicine is in very popular use and other than this, homeopathy has an excellent track record in the treatments of epidemics/ pandemics. Homeopathy has tremendous success in treating viral diseases, such as the common cold and different types of flu, dengue, measles, mumps, rubella, chicken pox, shingles, hepatitis B and C, herpes and cold sores, polio and even the odd case of rabies. Homeopathic medicines are safe to use and we can expect very little, if any, side-effects as can be experienced by using other systems of medicine.

In homeopathy an agent is used to treat the same symptoms in a diseased human being that it can produce in a healthy one. Thus the homeopathic arsenal against any disease already exists and it is only a question of matching the symptoms of the contagion to the known symptoms of a medicine which is the most similar.

As many studies have shown, homeopathic medicines have the power and capability to boost the immune system. Boosting immunity is exactly what is required in the battle against this disease to prevent, as well as help patients recover from this contagion. Homeopathy is both affordable and effective.

On May 1, 2020, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation gave permission to homoeopathic practitioners to conduct research at COVID-19 quarantine centres and combat the virus. The Ayush Ministry declared Arsenicum Album-30 as a “preventive’ against COVID-19. Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto has also batted for the homoeopathic medicines to combat COVID-19. He, on the basis of research done by Dr Rajan Sankaran, has backed Camphor 1M as a potential medicine for COVID-19.

Renowned homeopathic physician and Principal of Naiminath Homeopathy College and Hospital, Agra Dr Pradeep Gupta said his experiments to treat COVID-19 patients with homeopathic medicines had yielded successful results. He has written to all concerned to allow treatment of patients in hospitals by homeopathy to save the country from the current health crisis.

Gupta said, “After obtaining permission from the ICMR, we admitted 44 COVID-19 patients from the FH Medical College, Agra for treatment at our hospital on May 5. We formed two groups of 22 patients each. The first group was given homeopathic medicines, became symptom-free in three days and within seven days they were completely fit as vindicated by their two test reports. The other group is also under treatment and showing signs of fast recovery.” India has more than five lakh homeopaths who can provide this treatment. Gupta said, “I have offered to treat patients at my own cost anywhere in India and have communicated with all. The medicines are already known. In the containment zones, the medicines can be distributed free of cost. A lot of pressure would be reduced. When you do not have a choice and are far from developing medicines and vaccines, what is the harm in trying out homeopathy?”

With the number of police personnel in the state testing positive for Covid-19 rising every day, the Maharashtra Police has advised its personnel to take homeopathy medicines as a preventive measure. The state police force has procured Arsenicum Album 30 and Camphor 1m for more than two lakh of its employees and their families. “Both these medicines are shown to boost immunity. Many other states have also prescribed these medicines for their frontline workers,” said S Jagannathan, Additional Director General of Police (Planning and Coordination).

Kerala Government has given a massive push to the homeopathic medicine. The state government distributed homeopathy medicine to over 45 lakh people across the state as ‘immunity boosters’. This distribution was carried out by the MLAs of each district with the help of resident associations.

Recently the AYUSH ministry issued a health advisory and recommended that homeopathic medicines could be effective in the prevention of novel coronavirus (nCoV) infections.
