The formula of allotting marks to the students of Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education has been finalized by the state level committee and sent to Education Minister Dotasara on June 22. The scheme was approved by the Chief Minister on the very next day. In this scheme, the marks obtained by the students in the last two classes passed by them; would be the basis of their present marking system of 10th and 12th. Option has been given if a candidate is not satisfied with the marks allotted to him, then the education department of the state would take the examination of such students. At the same time, private (not regular) students will not be promoted and will have to take the exam.
The state government wants the process of preparing the results to be completed by the last week of July and marksheets should be made available to the students by the first week of August. Special care has been taken that the students of Rajasthan should not face any problem while seeking admission in big universities and colleges of other states.
Now the new idea has come out that the students of Class 12 will have to take practical exams. Marks obtained at practical marks will play the main role in the performance of a candidate. It will be decided by the Home Department, whether the student has to come to school for practicals or will have to take the exam online from home. Truly, this is going to create embarrassment in rural areas on the online exam. Unfortunately a large number of poor students do not have online resources.
In fact, the last two educational sessions have been spoilt by the erratic decisions of the state government. Hope, the guardians have not forgotten the statement made by the education minister of Rajasthan, “No School No fees.” Even the media and society failed to make the students understand the value of online education. At the same time most of the youth was engaged with online entertainment. This has resulted in making a large number of students addicted to electronic gadgets. How will society get rid of these dirty digital dots on it’s shining future?
The point to ponder earnestly is when the exams have already been cancelled whether the students will take these practical exams seriously! Even the Government is not quite serious about education. The colleges and universities could not conduct offline exams in the state. What to expect from these innocent students who are enjoying undeclared holidays since March 2020. This is an open secret that declaration of the result is a mere formality. Let this remain the same because Rajasthan Board can’t be compared with CBSE because the latter has got a different culture and procedure to evaluate it’s students. Moreover, CBSE had already conducted the practical exams before Prime Minister Modi declared the exams cancelled.
Forget the past. The present is very important. The government should re-think about the worth of practical exams in the examination that has already been cancelled. The third wave of COVID-19 is still suspected. Government should make a concrete strategy to overcome the challenge that the education of the budding generation is facing. The parents should understand that monitoring their wards is their most important duty. Parents should not be satisfied by just providing facilities but act as a watchdog. Otherwise it will not make any fruitful difference. Students must wake up now to start a fresh with new vigour.
